Rhubarb's Return

About the issue:

Rhubarb has been a family ingredient since I remember harvesting massive stalks from the edge of my grandmother's yard at her behest. This issue is dedicated to that early spring riser that lurks on the edge of many midwestern lawns (and even surprises us in some ornamental gardens like in the native plantings of a roundabout near my house in MPLS).

I had quite a bit of fun making this issue as I really leaned into the collage on the scanner vibe. Scanned pages were layered to show some items in focus and others blurred with a few stalks of the real plant thrown on for effect. I made the cover with construction paper laid on the screen (no glue) and recall dozens of attempts to get it all to fit (no digital attempts with this as it was on the old printer that I could only scan and print in one go).

I still swear by the ol' rhubarb as the best drink of the season. Cheers!
